Getting around Grenada -
Grenada Parishes

Saint Andrew is the largest parish in Grenada. The main town is Grenville, which is also Grenada's second main town after St George's. St. Andrew is the parish with the longest coastline and is also the largest producer of Grenada's main agricultural exports. Rainbow City is the name affectionately chosen for the lovely old town of Grenville, which was also called La Baye by the French.
Grenville city has a population of about 2,400 residents, with many more in the surrounding region. It serves as an economic and transportation hub for that part of the island, having the largest nutmeg-processing plant in Grenada. From the city's marketplace you can find minibuses (the common form of public transportation on the island) to areas all around the island.
It is located near Grenada's first airport, Pearls Airport, which became disused when a new airport was built.
When eastern spices were first introduced to Grenada, they were a novelty – the nutmeg for the Sunday morning Punch. With the devastation of the spice plantations in the Orient however, the local plantation owners seized the opportunity and gradually Grenada’s spice industry was developed.
Today nutmeg, allspice, clove, cinnamon, ginger, bay leaves, tumeric (local saffron) and sapote are all grown here and Grenada is one of the world’s major suppliers of nutmeg and mace. All good reasons why Grenada is known as the Isle of Spice.
