Most visitors of Grenada and many Grenadians alike have never been on the beach of Sandy Island. And no wonder because it is located 2 miles offshore the north tip of Grenada. That is quite far from where most visitors of Grenada stay.
For the people who come here by boat and that is everyone, the anchorage is in a perfect lagoon with very clear blue waters where the snorkling is fantastic. On the picture you can see how calm the waters here usually are. Just offshore lies a coral reef with untouched coral gardens and a large variety of exotic fish.
The view from the beach also includes a picturesque coconut grove and large hills covered in forest. The quarter- mile long beach has panoramic views of the islands to the north, and the main island to the west. The island has lush green vegetation including coconut palms and fruit trees.
All around Sandy Island you will find perfect snorkling conditions. Depending on currents and place of arrival you might decide for one side or the other. The divers will have to rely on the dive operators to take you there. They know the best spots and safety precautions here.
